Say Goodbye to Bothersome Bulges with Liposuction
The first important step to losing weight is adopting a healthy eating plan and incorporating exercise into your daily routine. So what if you are at your ideal weight but you still have some bulges, fatty deposits that no amount of exercise will get rid of? Liposuction is the answer to eliminating or greatly reducing those fatty protrusions so that clothes fit better and you feel better emotionally.
Defining the Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure performed by plastic or cosmetic surgeons which serves to remove fat deposits. These fat deposits are usually resistant to your exercise and dieting efforts. Surgeons will point out that people who view liposuction as a weight loss method are deluding themselves. Rather, this cosmetic surgery should be viewed as an opportunity to remove stubborn fat and refine the contours of your body.
Most plastic surgeons will not consider liposuction for you until you achieve a relatively normal body weight based on your health and body characteristics. The best scenario is when your weight is where it needs to be while still having a few trouble spots of fat that won’t budge. You see, fat likes to stick to your skin and can be quite stubborn to burn off through diet and exercise and therefore needs some way to become dislodged. Liposuction could be viewed as a type of cosmetic vacuum, sucking out as much fat as possible in designated areas.
Different Forms of the Liposuction Procedure
Several methods of liposuction exist and surgeons will choose one based on such factors as your overall health and the area where the fatty deposits will be extracted. You can get the procedure done on your abdominal area, thighs, neck, arms and even parts of the back near the hip area, your “saddlebags.” It is possible to remove fat from several areas of your body at the same time but your surgeon will make the judgment call in the operating room, based on how well you are doing.
The micro-liposuction also known as tumescent liposuction is perhaps one of the safest ways to proceed when you want to remove fat. The surgeons inject the intended area with an anesthetic to numb the area, thus causing swelling and firmness. Once accomplished, surgeons will make a small incision and feed a narrow, hollow tube (called a cannula) through it to get to the fatty deposits and suck them out.
Laser Liposuction
Laser liposuction is a recently FDA-approved procedure that employs a laser to help remove unwanted fat and uses a cannula with fibers from a laser. The energy emitted from these laser fibers break apart the fatty deposits which can then be sucked up through the cannula. Because of the tightness that occurs after the use of laser energy, smaller areas are best for the laser form of liposuction.
There are other methods of liposuction but the tumescent version as well as the laser one is the most popular at this time. While you may request a preference of one over the other, the cosmetic surgeons have the final word which they base on your general health as well as your general daily routine (which can affect recovery time). Remember, liposuction is not an easy way out to lose weight. You must have already reached your healthy goal weight for your height before legitimate cosmetic surgeons will work with you.
